New HHSTC Photos Online

Hello Members,

FYI - there are lots of new photos on our website! They include workdays, July 4th parade/party, random summer shots, swim team events and even Halloween from last year.

I tried my very best to avoid posting any unflattering pictures of people. But if you find yourself unhappy with any photos of you or your kids, please let me know and I'll remove them immediately.

Survey Results and Past/Future Projects

Hello Members,

Remember the survey? Curious as to how everyone else voted? The results are now online (including all the comments).

www.hhstc.com/survey.html <http://www.hhstc.com/Survey.html>

In an effort to keep this email semi-short, here's a brief summary of what we have done this year to improve the club:
  • Resurfacing of the tennis courts.
  • Removal of major vegetation and overgrowth around the tennis courts.
  • New pump house roof.
  • New picnic tables by the tennis courts.
  • New toddler playground and picnic area next to the clubhouse (FYI - this was all free; donated by various members).
  • New refrigerator in the concessions area.
  • New sound system and multi-media wiring in the clubhouse.
  • Kudzu killing. Have you noticed it all turning brown?
  • New pool pump (wasn't planned, but it will serve us many, many years).
Here's what we have planned for 2010:
  • Resurfacing of baby pool and new baby pool cover.
  • New exterior signage for pool and tennis courts.
  • New tennis deck (note: this was not highly ranked in the survey, but have you been on it lately? It was painted a couple of years ago and looked new, but it is falling apart and is a hazard).
  • Major cleaning and minor upgrades in the bathrooms.
  • New clubhouse flooring (note: this will likely have to wait until we are certain of our 2010 membership numbers).
  • Pre-payments to our outstanding loan balance, so as to shorten the life of the loan.
In summary, we are continuing to improve the club, while being mindful that we still have a large outstanding loan balance and we need to take care of what we have, before we add more. This means the redevelopment of the back lots will have to wait (even though it was voted # 1 in the survey).

Last but not least, we are now working on a long-term Master Plan for the Club. This will be key to our future success and help ensure that we make smart decisions now, that are aligned with our future goals. If you would like to be a part of the planning, we will have some open slots on the Board in 2010. Please reply to this email if you are interested in serving.

It's been a great couple of years and we are happy to have you as members. We hope you are as excited about our future as we are.

Enjoy the rest of summer!

Membership Survey

Hello Members,

Just to summarize where we are: membership is solid, we have money in the bank and we have a terrific volunteer Board of Directors. Times are good (finally!). We are now in a position to make some exciting decisions for the Club (both immediate and long-term). And to make the best decisions possible, we need the opinions of all the members.

So we have created our first Annual Membership Survey! It should take you about 5-10 minutes to complete, depending on how much you think about your answers.

The survey will close on Sunday, July 5th at 9pm.

Here's the link: XXXXX (email us for the link - members only).

Thanks!

HHSTC Board

ps. The survey is for members only (we will be checking the names) and up to 2 adults per household can complete the survey.

July 4th Money Dive and Survey Reminder

Hello Members,

We hope you are planning to join us for July 4th! The parade lineup starts at 9:45 am. One of the many games we have planned at the pool is money diving (sorry, kids only). If you have some spare change around the house that you would like to donate, please just bring it to the pool and give it to the guys at the grill. We'll do the dive after lunch.

And as a reminder, the membership survey closes this Sunday evening, so if you haven't filled it out yet, please do! The results will be used to determine how we spend our money now and into the future, as we create a long-term plan for the club.

Here's the link:
XXXX (email us for the link - members only)

2 adults/household may complete the survey. However, depending on your browser settings, you may not be able to take it twice from the same computer. If you find the link doesn't work the second time, just try it from another computer.

Thanks,

NO Cookout Friday; July 4th Party Details

Hello Members,

We will not be having a cookout this Friday night (July 3rd), so we can give the guys a break in preparation for the July 4th cookout.

We'll begin July 4th with a neighborhood parade (everyone invited!), starting at the pool at 10am. This is the time to show your American Pride! Decorate your bikes, trikes, wagons, big wheels, strollers and yourself with as much red, white and blue as you can. The parade route will be Plantation, Monford, Greenhill, Stark, Ensign and back to Plantation to the pool. Prizes will be awarded, so give it your best!

The pool opens at 10:30am. The giant water slides will be returning this year! We'll also have watermelon football, diving for drinks (adult beverages, too!), watermelon eating contests and more. Cookout ($3/plate) is from noon to 3pm. The pool closes at 8pm and you can then walk up the street to Chamblee High School and view the Keswick Park fireworks.

We hope to see on the 4th!

Swim Lessons & Water Aerobics

Hello Members,

We are pleased to announce that we now have several swim lesson options for kids of all ages.

Candace Hall is returning again this year. She is wonderful with the kids, charges only $3 per lesson and she donates all the money right back to the Club! This year she will be teaching Monday, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 - 7 pm. No reservations required, but first come, first serve. If only one kid shows up, they get a private lesson. Max 5 kids per lesson. Lesson lengths vary depending on the number and ages of kids present (all ages welcome).

If you are interested in something a bit more structured and/or at a different time, our Hammerhead coaches, Lili Watts and Rachel Mottern are available for 30-minute private lessons at a rate of $10/lesson. Rachel is lifeguard certified and her number is 770-454-8513. Lili is CRP certified and her number is 404-376-0988. Both have grown up on the Hammerhead team and swim on their high school teams.

In other exciting news...water aerobics is back! Candace Hall will be teaching Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights from 8-9pm. The pool will be closed to anyone not in the class and a waiver must be signed before participation. The cost is only $3 per class and again, Candace will donate all the money to the Club. No reservations required, but we do need at least 2 participants in order to have class, for safety reasons.

If you are interested in either swim lessons or water aerobics with Candace, please respond to this email, so we can let you know of any updates/schedule changes. You can buy pre-paid punch cards for either at our online store:  The cost is $27 and is good for 10 lessons/classes (that's right, you get one free!). Or you can give Candace a check or cash after each lesson or class.

Have fun!

-HHSTC Board

Ps. If the 6pm time frame for swim lessons cuts into your usually your dinner time - just bring your dinner to the pool! Remember, we have a kitchen, with a fridge/freezer, stove and microwave for your use anytime. And several of our local sponsors deliver right to the pool :)

New Kid's Business Club!

An email from one of our members, Cordelia Blake.

*****

Several of the children have mentioned an interest in starting a business/entrepreneurship club. I am going to manage the club for them and teach/facilitate it. There may be guest teachers as well-we'll see what is needed. My plan is to teach them business basics and support them in implementing their own ideas as a team.

Right now-it is only open to HHSTC members. In general the meetings will be on Fridays at 5:30-6:30 in the clubhouse but the first one will be on Thursday, June 18th at 5:30pm.

I will need some parent volunteers to help with errands as needed. For each volunteer I would like your name, phone and email. A child other then your own will be contacting you to ask for help. I would like parents who do any necessary driving (to pick up supplies etc...) to keep approximate track of their mileage. You will not be reimbursed but I want the kids to track it as part of the expense of the business.

Each participant should bring $5 to the first session. We will pool together the $5 to have our "startup" funds and then at the end of the summer we'll split the profit so that 50% goes to charity (of the kids choice) and 50% is split up between all the participating children.

In terms of age of kids participating-I think that rising 1st-6th graders is good guideline but if you have a younger or older child who wants to participate-please use your judgement. If they are on the younger side-please plan to have one parent there to help them.

All projects and profits are by team not individual.

Each participant will get their own login to our blog at: http://Bizkids.Wordpress.com/ so that they can post updates.

I really do not want to spend tons of time developing a long list of rules and regs-so lets all just use our common sense. Parents are welcome to attend any sessions at any time to observe.

While there is not an attendance requirement per se-in order for the club to work you have to attend regularly. Also, good behavior is required as well. If a child is asked to leave due to poor behavior they will not be able to come back or get their $5 back or get any of the profits.

Schedule:

Thursday, June 18th 5:30pm
Friday, June 26th, 5:30pm
Friday, July 3, 5:30pm
Friday, July 10, 5:30pm
Friday, July 17, 5:30pm
Friday, July 24, 5:30pm
Friday, July 31, 5:30pm
Friday, Aug 7, 5:30pm (last session)

To sign up send an email to Cordelia@cordeliablake.com with the following:

child's name, age, parent's name, parent best phone number, child's email (if they have one), parent's email

Thanx!

Friday Night Cookouts and Pre-Paid Punch Cards

Hello HHSTC Members,

The weather has been a little unpredictable, but that hasn't stopped us from having a terrific opening weekend!

Our first Friday Night cookout was a big success and we are looking forward to many, many more. On that note, have you noticed John and Spencer are ALWAYS behind the grill? While they enjoy it, they are going to need some breaks throughout the summer. So if you can volunteer to grill for a night (or even an hour), please let us know by replying to this email. It's fun and easy and a great way to get to know other members.

Also, the pre-paid punch cards are now available for purchase online. They are good for ten, $3 meals and cost only $27 - that means one meal is free! You can purchase them anytime and they'll be available for pickup at the grill on Friday nights. And if you get this email tonight and buy one tonight, it will be there for the Memorial Day cookout (starts at noon).

New Blog in 2009!

Well, I'm back to blogging! It's been a long time since I've updated this. Sorry about that. Life has been busy since May of 2008. Whatever.

And if you are one of the few people who actually read the Blog in 2008 (thank you, btw), you may notice I've changed the site. Without boring you with technical details, I'll just say that Google has this blog thing figured out and it's way easier than dealing with it in iWeb. So I copied all the old blogs over but didn't bother re-loading the photos b/c I didn't think it was worth 20 minutes of my time.

So, all that said, what's up with 2009?!?

Well, we have many new awesome board members, we are soon going to redo the tennis courts, there are lots of workdays planned (and this year we are going to PAY you $25 to show up and work!) and the calendar is already packed full with parties and fun social activities.

Start saving your dues money now...the late fee is back!

And if money is tight, rejoice in the fact that we are still one of the cheapest clubs around town and you can spend every Friday and Saturday night at the pool, eating cheap cookout dinners or sharing in potluck parties. Can't afford to go anywhere for the holidays? Come to the pool! We'll have food, games, and other fun surprises for Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day.

We know we said last year was the best our club had ever seen...but this year is going to be even better. We promise!
