HHSTC Annual Meeting - Jan 26th

We hope that you are enjoying this holiday season. The recent caroling party was a huge success and the neighborhood is looking festive as always.

The time is quickly approaching when we hold our annual membership meeting. Please plan on joining us at the clubhouse Sunday, January 26th at 5:00 PM. There will be pizza and drinks for those in attendance.

We will review the financial state of the club and elect board members. If you are interested in donating a few hours of your time through the course of the year this meeting would be the first step in becoming acquainted with the club. Not all volunteers are required to sit on the elected board of directors. There are many committees that may touch on a particular strength of an individual. These committees include:

Swim Operations
Maintenance/Facilities
Grounds
Social
Membership
Communications
Rentals
Swim Team
Tennis

Board members are entitled to votes at regularly scheduled board meetings, while committee members serve informally. Seeing how we are a fun loving crowd, a strong emphasis is placed on party planning. If you are vibrant and energetic, and willing to donate just a few hours, come join us. We would love to have you!

Lastly, we will provide an update on the future plans for the club. This past year has required significant research in order to determine how to best move forward. We feel that a good plan now exists and we need you to be an integral part of the process! You won’t want to miss this portion of the meeting. Thinking about future improvements for the club is exciting!

We hope that you will be able to attend the HHSTC Annual Meeting Sunday, January 26th at 5:00 PM. If, for any unfortunate reason, you are not able to attend but are interested in joining a committee and/or the board, please reply to this email. We will also take nominations for board members. If you know someone that you have always thought would be a great addition to the board, please pass along their information and we will handle the rest.

We hope that you have a safe and Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing many of you at the Annual Meeting!

Christmas Caroling in Huntley Hills this Coming Sun, Dec. 15th

Our Huntley Hills Swim and Tennis Club is sponsoring Christmas Caroling again this year!

Join us on Sunday, December 15th starting at 4:45 pm.

We’ve decided to take things up a notch this year. We’ll be meeting at the Freymanns’ house (2070 Plantation Lane) at 4:45 pm for heavy appetizers/dinner and drinks (hot chocolate, apple cider, plus whatever adult beverages you wish to bring).  We’ll practice our songs, review our route and just a have some fun before the caroling begins. We’ll plan to leave the house at 6:00 pm.

We’ll sing our way down Plantation, to Captian Dr, to Commander Dr, back to Plantation and we’ll end up at the Tracy’s house (1968 Plantation Lane). There we’ll sit under the lights and focus on dessert with more drinks and s’mores by the fire. If we have a group of serious carolers, we might continue and cover our traditional route (Plantation to Montford to Greenhill to Stark to Ensign and back to Plantation).

Please let us know if you plan to attend by replying to this email, so we can better plan the food and drinks. And if you can contribute to appetizers or desserts, that would be GREAT :) Just let us know what you plan to bring by following this link:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aid38ltTQL0ldE0tUi1tNHFWbjRESHl6aWlKNHkwOEE#gid=0

Also, this is open to anyone in the Chamblee area who wants to join us.

We hope you can make it!

Ryan Tracy, HHSTC President
Leslie Freymann, HHSTC Vice-President

PS. It's been raining the last two years we've tried this - so we are assuming the 3rd time will be the charm. But if not, our rain date is Sunday, December 22nd. Click here for photos from last year <https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.457145560987686.92717.143391959029716&type=3 > .

Change of Pool Hours Starts Monday!

Hi Members,

We hope everyone enjoyed our back-to-school parties this weekend. As a reminder, our pool hours change on Monday (August 12).

We've always changed the opening time on weekdays to 3pm after school starts (as do all other pools in the area) but this year we are open at 10:30 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays - for adults and parents with young kids, not yet in school and/or on different school schedules.

The new hours are as follows...

3:00 pm to 7 pm   (Mon & Wed)
10:30 am to 7 pm  (Tues & Thurs)
3:00 pm to 8 pm  (Fri & Sat)
11:00 am to 8 pm  (Sun)

Adult swim at your own risk: 6 am to 10 am

Pool hours <http://www.hhstc.com/Hours.html>  are determined/set in our pool management contract - which we often sign at least 6 months before the start of each season. If you have an opinion or preference on the hours for next year, please let us know by replying to this email.

Thanks!

Glass at the Pool

Hi Members,

We hope you have been enjoying your summer so far.  It feels as though it is winding down way too soon.  Hopefully the sun will make an extended appearance over the next few weeks.

We need to send out a reminder that glass containers are not allowed on the pool deck.  This rule is particularly important when you consider how much danger is presented by glass fragments.  As members we all have a responsibility to make sure rules are being followed.  If you see someone with a glass container, please make them aware of the rule and offer paper or plastic cups, which are stored in the kitchen.

If a glass container is broken on the pool deck, the pool must be drained and re-filled.  The cost to fill the pool about $1,200.  This amount will be charged to the member responsible for the violation.

With some foresight we can all ensure this type of accident never occurs at the pool.

Thank you,

HHSTC Board

Open Grill Friday and Tennis Reminder

Hi Members,

We won't be having a regular cookout this Friday (not enough volunteers) but we will have the large cookout grill available for members to use from 5:30 to 8pm (first come, first serve). Ryan Tracy has volunteered to set it up and clean it afterwards. Thanks Ryan!

Please bring your own food, plates, drinks, etc - and have fun!

Now, switching topics...

As a reminder, please be sure to always reserve the tennis courts online, even if nobody is using them and you are headed to the courts to play. Other members might sign-up at any time and they will come, expecting to play. You can check the status and reserve courts directly from your cell phone.

50+ Potluck Dinner Social this Sunday at 6pm

Hi Neighbors,

The Huntley Hills Swim and Tennis Club is sponsoring a Senior potluck dinner social at the pool this Sunday (July 14th) at 6pm.  And for the purposes of this event only, we are defining “Senior” as 50+, just cause that’s how AARP defines it (so don’t blame us, blame AARP :) and we wanted to open it up to as many people as possible. Please come and meet your neighbors – young and old!

This event is free and we hope lots of you will be able to make it. Please bring a dish to share and a serving utensil. The club will provide plates, napkins, utensils and non-alcoholic drinks. For additional details and to RSVP, click here . Rain or shine, we will be there! Last year we had over 20 people show up and it was POURING down rain!

If the Internet is not your thing, you can also RSVP by just replying to this email or calling 770-713-0350.

Thanks!

-Leslie Freymann
HHSTC Board Member

PS. Please forward this email to anyone you think might be interested. And if you have a Senior neighbor, without Internet/email, it would be great if you could print this and put it in their mailbox. Thanks!

July 4th Recap and Party Photos

We had a great July 4th party at the pool today! Our parade was rain-free and we were able to get in almost all of our games before the thunder break. Many thanks to everyone who helped with the planning, decorating, grilling, clean-up, etc, etc. And a special thanks to Mary Finnegan for being in charge of the party this year!

Parade photos are on the Huntley Hills Neighborhood Facebook Page and our party photos are on theHHSTC Facebook Page.

The kids played a quick game of Watermelon Football - sort of - you can see it in the photos. But the real game (old guys vs young guys) was rained/thundered out. So was the tee-shirt relay race. But that's ok - we'll do both during our Labor Day Party!

No cookout this Friday and Saturday's movie night may or may not happen - just depends on weather and volunteers. Check our Facebook Page for last minutes updates.

Thanks Everyone!

July 4th Party Details!

Hello Members,

We hope you are planning to spend July 4th with us! Here are our plans...

Our annual bike parade starts at 10:00 am. We welcome all bikes, strollers, wagons, dogs, and family members to follow the route down Plantation to Montford then Greenhill to Stark and Ensign and back to Plantation to the pool. We ask that everyone start to gather around 9:30 so we can have a prompt start. We encourage everyone to decorate their vehicles to the max, as we will have prizes at the end for best decorated in different age groups, pets, family combos and any other categories that we come up with! And all who finish will get a popsicle.

The pool opens at 10:30 am.

The grill will be open from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm for burgers and hot dogs with the sides of chips and drinks ($4/meal). This year we are also adding BBQ ribs so bring your appetite!

Pool games start around 11:00 am and will continue throughout the afternoon. We will also have a DJ from 12 to 4 to add some fun and great music. There will be a dance contest towards the end of the day so bring on your moves!

The party is FREE for members. Guest fees are $10/person because we spend a bunch of money on this party and give away lots of free stuff (to kids and adults!).

We expect to be crowded - please feel free to bring your own pool chairs and/or shade tents/umbrellas.

We hope to see everyone there to celebrate Independence Day with friends and neighbors!!

- HHSTC Board

PS. The City of Chamblee also has great July 4th activities starting at 5pm and terrific fireworks!

Some important notes about the baby pool

Hi Members,

Just a friendly reminder - the baby pool is for children 4 and under only. Please make sure your older children know this rule.

ALL children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian inside the baby gate. Please do not allow your child to enter the gate unless you go in there with them and stay with them. If you see a child inside the gate without an adult, please ask them to leave - for their own safety. A child can drown in just a couple of inches of water.

The lifeguards are not responsible for watching the baby pool.

Also, if you see any children swinging on the baby pool gate (or the main gate) please immediately ask them to stop. The gates have to remain self-closing (for safety reasons) and the extra weight throws them off alignment. We've had to have multiple, costly repairs on both gates.

Thanks so much for helping us keep things safe!

The club will provide tortilla chips and pita bread triangles. If your dip is just not happy with that and you want it to have something fancier - feel free to bring whatever dipper you desire. The club will also provide soft drinks and water. Please bring your own adult beverages (but please, no glass on the pool deck).

Huntley Hills Swim and Tennis Club Update and Upcoming Events

Hello Huntley Hills Neighbors,

For those new to the area, you might not know...we have a gem of a Swim and Tennis Club tucked into the heart of our neighborhood. It's been awhile since I've sent an update about it, so here goes...

2012 was one of the most successful years our club has ever had! Our membership reached capacity, our social activities expanded, our tennis program grew and we continued to make improvements to our facilities. But the most exciting news in 2012 was that we paid off a 10-year, $130K loan in less than 4.5 years! Our Club is now debt free! You can read more about that by clicking here.

Things are continuing to get better. Since last Fall, we refinished our bathroom floors, painted our fencing, resurfaced our tennis courts, stained our tennis deck, bought more new pool furniture, added more shade to our pool decking, expanded our pool hours, added a junior swim team program and hired professional landscapers to maintain our grounds. We are also currently working on a Master Plan, that will include additional repairs, upgrades and capital improvements over the next 10 years.

The turn-around in our club could never have happened without the continued volunteer work of our 14 member Board of Directors and the on-going support and commitment from our wonderful members and sponsors. Many thanks to everyone who has had a part in helping our club! We hope in the future, many more people, in and around Huntley Hills/Chamblee will join and volunteer, so the success can continue for decades.

Speaking of joining...we still have some space for 2013 and we would love for more people to join! Click here for more information.

Here's our Community Summer Calendar...

Sunday, June 2nd – Good Neighbor Day!
The pool is open to everyone!

Saturday, June 15th – 3rd Annual Dip-Off Party
Open to everyone (adults only). Members compete for the best dip. 6 categories, lots of prizes. Details coming soon.

Tuesday, June 18th - Home Swim Meet
Come see all your neighbors, eat a great dinner and cheer on the Hammerheads - it's tons of fun!
Warning: lots of cars will be parked around the pool.

Tuesday, June 25th - Home Swim Meet (see above)

Sunday, July 14th – 50+ Pot Luck Dinner
Open to all residents 50 and over.

Thursday, July 4th – Huntley Hills Neighborhood Parade

Saturday, August 3rd – Kids Movie Night
Open to all residents.

If you have any questions about our club and/or would like to schedule a visit, please just let me know. Also, please forward this to any friends or neighbors you have that might be thinking about joining, now or in the future.

Thanks!

Very Important Pool Notes

Hi Members,

The pool is awesome and fun and we want you to always have a GREAT time at our club. Please just keep in mind the following rules, etc...
  • The baby pool is for children 4 and under and they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian inside the baby gate. The lifeguards are not responsible for watching the baby pool.
  • Adult swim is the last 15 minutes of every hour. Please make sure your children know this rule and exist the pool quickly. The children and the lifeguards need the full 15 minute break, for safety reasons.
  • There is a first aid kit in the guard room, with bandaids, etc. If you need guard assistance, the pool must be cleared (which is no problem, and should always be done in an emergency).
  • There is land phone line by the kitchen window, for quickly calling 911 (it routes directly to Chamblee; cell phones often go to DeKalb, which is known to put people on hold).
  • Parents are responsible for watching their own children. Lifeguards are a secondary level of protection from drowning. If you believe the lifeguards are not not watching the pool as they should and/or behaving inappropriately, please quickly report all problems to our President, Ryan Tracy (ryan-tracy@comcast.net).
  • Children 10 and over may come to the pool by themselves, provided they pass a swim test (swimming the length of the pool). Coming alone is a privilege, not a right, and will be revoked if there are problems.
  • Don't forget sunscreen! We try to always have backup sunscreen in the guard room, but no guarantees.
  • Children not FULLY potty trained need to always be wearing swim diapers. And please do not bring sick children to the pool. Thanks!
  • If you find the bathrooms are needing supplies, please report it to the lifeguard.
  • The kitchen is available at all times for adult members; please label your food/drinks and help us keep the kitchen clean. Thanks!
  • The Clubhouse should remain closed, unless rented for a private party.
  • Smoking is not allowed in or around the pool; there is a smoking area behind the clubhouse.
  • Members are allowed to bring alcohol - please just do not bring any glass containers. If it breaks and gets in the pool, we have to drain the pool. And do you know what it costs to refill the pool? We do! And you will, too - when we give you the bill :)
  • Guest fees are on the honor system, although Board members and lifeguards will randomly check the sign-in sheets and ask for pool tags. Please respect our guest fee policy
Whew! That's a lot of rules, etc! But wait...we have more. Click here to read all of our pool rules

So all of that said - we hope you have a terrific (and safe) summer at our pool!!

Memorial Day Weekend Update!

  • Today is opening day!! Hours are from 10:30 am to 10 pm. View our summer pool hours onlineNote: Swim Team has priority over the pool M/W from 7-8 pm in June.
  • Our Friday Night Cookout starts at 6 pm. $4 for a meal (burger/hotdog, chips and drink). Cash or punch cards only. Tonight Board member, Luis Moreno, will be in charge of the grill and he has as special surprise for everyone. So come check it out!
  • Saturday we will be having very informal Round Robin Tennis Matches - so bring your racket with you to the pool and get ready to break in our beautiful courts!
  • Monday is our Memorial Day Party! Cookout around 12ish. Same deal as above.
  • We have a bounce house for the kids all weekend, thanks to our terrific returning sponsor,Jump N' Slide (they rent bounces houses for only $110 for the entire weekend!).
  • If you haven't received your pool tag yet, it will be available in the guard room all weekend. If it's not, please reply to this email. Pool tags not picked up this weekend will be delivered or mailed Tuesday.
  • We will have member sign-in sheets at the front table, along with a guest fee box ($4/guest).View our guest fee policy online
  • Reminder: lifeguards are not responsible for watching the baby pool and all parents need to be responsible for watching their kids at the pool. Lifeguards are there to add a secondary level of protection. Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children ages 1 – 4, and the second leading cause when expanded to 19 years old.  A staggering 19% of these occur at guarded pools!
Be safe and we hope you enjoy our opening weekend!

Hi my name is Lili. I am 20 years old and this is my 5th year coaching the Hammerheads. I attend the University of Georgia and I am about to start my junior year. I am an Early Childhood Education major. I have been swimming since I was five years old. I swam on the Huntley Hills Hammerheads from age 6 to 18. I also swam for F.A.S.T. and Dynamo. Lastly, I swam for my high school all four years. So swimming has been apart of my life for as long as I can remember. For swim lessons  I charge $20 for a 30-minute private lesson with 1 child. If 2 children swim at the same time, I charge $15 per child for the 30-minute lesson. I am really looking forward to this season. I hope to get to know your children and make sure they have a lot of fun.

Tennis Court Resurfacing Starts Today!

Just a reminder - our tennis court resurfacing starts today (Wed). The courts will be closed for the next 5 days, so all the work can be completed. If they have consistently good weather, we may be able to open sooner.

Also - we will be restaining the tennis deck in the next couple of weeks - so be on the lookout for a notice regarding specific dates it will be closed.

Things are going to look fabulous for our opening day - Friday, May 25th.

Many thanks to Luis Moreno, Ashley Kuehne and others on the Board who helped make all of this happen. Also - thanks to everyone who donated money and/or attended our successful fun raiser events - look for photos on Facebook soon.

Have a great week!

Tennis Courts Closed Thursday/Friday & Weekend Tennis Events Update

Hi Members,

Our tennis fence is getting painted this ThursdayFriday and Sat am (May 9th - 11th), so we'll have to close the courts. Please make alternate plans at Blackburn, Keswick or elsewhere.

Also, as a reminder, our Tennis Fun Raiser is Saturday afternoon!
It's not too late to RSVP (which will really help us plan the food and drinks).

And Sunday we'll be having our Draw on the Courts Fun Raiser.
Click here for details. It's $5/child, $10/adult and now an all new option of $20/family.

Finally - the resurfacing and painting of the courts was supposed to start Monday but with all the rain, they've had to delay. We expect that work to now start on Wed, May 15th and take up to 5 days - and of course, the courts will be closed for that time period.

We hope to see lots of our members at both events this weekend!!

Come Draw on Our Tennis Courts - May 12th!!

Children and adults - come out and show us your chalk drawing prowess on our Huntley Hills Tennis courts!!

Sunday May 12 from 2p-5p

This is your chance to tag our tennis courts with your own chalk creations. A prize will be given to the best drawing.
This is another ” funraiser” for the refurbishing of our courts, which start the next day!!

Kids -$5
Adults $10

All money goes towards the major cosmetic upgrade our courts are getting this month.

We will have music and some snacks but please bring your own drinks and other snacks.
.
Bring your own chalk - no paint or markers - chalk only.

We hope to see you there!

President's Annual Letter/Update

HHSTC Members,

We hope you are as excited for the 2013 swim season as we are.  Swim team has started and soon all will be joining in the fun.  Returning members know the great fun and social events offered by our club.  Let’s help welcome new members so they can experience HHSTC while feeling comfortable and at home.  Thank you to ALL members for joining us for a new and exciting year!

As you know, our club is now debt free.  This has allowed the board of directors to become proactive in the management of our club.  Most importantly, we have the resources to create a positive, clean, member driven experience for everyone.  Every year we listen to member feedback and try our best to deliver results.  Some of the items delivered this year include:

  • Bathrooms floors renovated
  • July closing extended to 9PM
  • Swim at Own Risk extended to 10AM
  • Additional pool tables/chairs and lounge chairs
  • Additional side tables
  • Additional shade umbrellas
  • Shade cabanas sanitized and cleaned
  • Pool fence painted
  • Clubhouse/bathroom/kitchen cleaning barter
  • New pool management company hired
  • Pool handrail and ladders repaired
  • Entire facility pressure washed
  • Professional landscaping company hired
  • New toddler playground
  • Junior Hammerheads program started
We are also extremely pleased to announce that morning hours have been added a couple of days per week after kids go back to school in August.  Other improvements are continuing as well.  This past week erosion concerns were addressed under the tennis courts.  Over the next two weeks the tennis area will receive significant enhancements, which will ensure all appropriate maintenance procedures are being done, as well as increasing the aesthetic appeal of our club.  While immediate needs are being addressed, we have also begun looking towards, and planning for, the future.  Additional details on past, current, and future upgrades will be coming soon!

As we prepare for swim season, safety can never be stressed enough.  A few of us recently attended a pool seminar and we feel the need to share some startling statistics.  Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children ages 1 – 4, and the second leading cause when expanded to 19 years old.  A staggering 19% of these occur at guarded pools!  Have a good time, socialize, and remember that WE as individuals are the first line of defense in ensuring the safety of everyone, especially the precious children in our community.

I feel privileged to be involved with HHSTC, surrounded by so many great members and a talented group of volunteers.  Each season we strive to build upon the success of the previous year.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of the board of directors at any time.  We are highly accessible and look forward to hearing your questions, comments, or concerns.

Thank you,

Ryan Tracy
