Survey Results & New Board Members

Hi Members,

We hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving holiday. Only 6 more months until the pool opens!!!

Many thanks to all 74 of you who completed our recent survey about membership, shade and furniture. We especially appreciate all the thoughtful comments and suggestions. Based on the results (attached in an email to members) we  voted to increase membership by no more than 20 households. We will also be getting more furniture and shade - details coming soon.

FYI - for those new to the club (or for those feeling nostalgic), you can view our 2009 survey results here:
http://www.hhstc.com/Survey.html

We use these surveys to help guide us in our decisions - and you can expect more surveys in 2013, as we continue to work on our Master Plan. In the mean time, please let us know of any additional thoughts, concerns, or suggestions you may have.

Also, we will be having our annual meeting in January, where we will elect the 2013 Board. If you would like to nominate yourself or someone else, please reply to this email. We will be making some big decisions this upcoming year regarding our budget and master plan and we need hard working, dedicated volunteers to be a part of the process.

Thanks!

Update on our bathroom floors & fence

Hi Members,

If you've hated the bathroom floor mats and/or just felt gross walking on them in bare feet - we have some good news for you. They are gone! Bye, bye!

We took them out, cleaned the floors, fixed the drains, power/acid washed everything and now we have beautifully painted (non-slip) floors. We've also made a few cosmetic changes to the women's bathroom.

We are looking forward to a summer of clean bathrooms :)

AND...

If you've hated the ugly chain link fence in the front of the pool - we have some more good news for you. It's now painted black! And so are all the light poles and shade sail poles. It looks sooooo much better.

Many, many thanks to Ryan Tracy for spearheading both of these efforts.

You can view all of the before and after pictures on our Facebook page. But warning, some of the before bathroom pictures might make you want to throw up. We went ahead and put them online, in an effort to be fully transparent. We hadn't addressed the bathroom floors earlier not so much because of money but more because we didn't have anybody volunteer to spend the time doing research and figuring out the best way to fix the problems - and then implementing the solutions. Until Ryan helped us out :)

Our club is run entirely by volunteers and the more people we have helping, the more we can get done. And on that note, if you would like to be on the Board for the 2013 season, please let us know! Nominations are being taken now and elections will be in January. We would love to have some new faces, new energy and new ideas join us at the table.

Thanks and we hope to see you at our Halloween Party

WE ARE DEBT FREE!!

The subject line of this email probably made you think it was spam. It’s not. The Huntley Hills Swim and Tennis Club is now DEBT FREE! Last month we made a final principal pre-payment of $38K and paid off our $130K 10-year loan in less than 4.5 years. And we’re so excited, we just had to shout it out!!

Now, for the details...

Here’s a brief 14 year history of our club, which explains why we had the loan and how we paid it off...

1998 - borrowed $80K to resurface pool deck and tennis courts, redo pool electrical, re-plaster pool, new pool tile and coping. Pool did not open until July. Resurfacing aspect proved to be inadequate with sub par installation. Decrease in membership.

1999 - 2004 - pool deck crumbling, facilities fell into disrepair, membership stagnant.

2005 - 2007 - improvements/repairs made, membership grew slightly.

2008 - a very precarious year for the club!

  • DeKalb County wouldn’t allow the pool to open without new concrete pool deck and fencing (both out of code and unsafe); still owed $50K of the $80K borrowed 10 years earlier in 1998; borrowed another $80K ($130 total, 10 year loan), assessed members $250, raised initiation fee from $150 to $400; lost 37 renewal memberships, membership under 100 in April.
  • Pool deck construction was well managed and under budget, replaced fencing, added baby pool fence, replaced all furniture, painted everything, improved grounds/curb appeal, removed pine trees, added shade structures, increased pool hours, new website, massive marketing effort; gained 27 new members in May/June.
2009 - 2012 - tremendous growth in membership, added Board members with skills in landscaping and construction, new accounting software implemented, increased communications, started Friday night cookouts, resurfaced the tennis courts, replaced the tennis deck, new roof on pump house, resurfaced the baby pool, new baby pool cover, new pool pump, added shade sails, additional repairs and improvements.

Prepayments made to the $130K loan (using new member initiation fees and additional revenue):
 2009 - $30K
 2011 - $15K
2012 - $38K (10 year loan paid off in less than 4.5 years!)

2013 – loan is gone (was $18K/year) and we will begin the season with approximately $12K in emergency reserves. This was all possible thanks to the hard work and smart decisions of lots and lots of people, over many years. There really are way too many people to list and thank but if you’ve ever donated your time, talents, services, money, etc to the club, you know who you are, and we THANK YOU!!

We would also like to thank all of our members! Without the continued support of long term members (especially those who stuck with us in 2008) and the addition of wonderful new members, we would not have survived. Our Club is successful because we have terrific members and we hope all of you will be with us for many, many years to come.

****

Now that we are debt free and membership is strong, we are beginning work on the Master Plan! We’ve already had our first meeting and have gotten the ball rolling. You’ll be seeing more about this in the weeks and months to come. In the mean time, take a look at our attached financial summary (not posted on the blog) and be on the lookout for a detailed membership summary. All of this information will help you make informed decisions, as we begin sending out a series of membership surveys to help us guide and prioritize the Master Plan.

Thanks again to everyone who has helped us get to where we are today!

- HHSTC Board

Ps. We hope to see everyone at our annual HHSTC Halloween Party (details coming soon).

Friday Family Movie Night - Additional Fun Details

Hi Members,

Just a reminder - this Friday (21st) is Family Movie Night! We'll be watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, starting at 6:30 pm in the clubhouse. The movie and popcorn are free! Bring your own blankets, pillows and/or folding chairs.

For extra fun - the HH Neighborhood Association has rented the bounce houses from Jump and Slide (one of oursponsors) - and since their rentals run from Friday - Monday, we'll have the bounce houses at the pool Friday night for movie night!

They'll be setup around 4 pm. So if you want to bring a picnic dinner or order pizza or take out - please come early and enjoy dinner with your friends and neighbors, while the kids bounce away their energy before the movie.

Hope to see you there!

Labor Day Weekend - Potluck and Cookout

Hi Members,

Hard to believe summer is almost (officially) over! We hope you'll be around this Labor Day weekend, to enjoy the pool before we close.

We will be having an impromptu, last minute potluck dinner this Friday (Aug 31st). We'll start at 6 pm. Click here to rsvp and list what you think you might bring. Potluck is on - rain or shine. If it's raining, we'll show a kid movie in the clubhouse.

We will also be having our Labor Day Cookout on Monday (Sept 3rd) from 12:30 - 2:30. Same deal as Friday night cookouts - $4 for a hotdog or burger, chips and drink. If you have punches left on your punch card after the cookout - don't worry, you can use them next summer. And if you'd like to help us end the summer with themost awesome cookout ever - please consider bringing a salad, side dish or dessert to share with everyone. Or maybe even a pitcher of your favorite "summer drink".

And by the way - thanks to our great sponsor, Jump and Slide, we'll have a bounce house for the kids - AND it will be setup all weekend, starting Friday afternoon. Please consider Jump and Slide for your next party - they have been good to Huntley Hills and you can't beat their prices!

We hope you've enjoyed the summer and we hope to see you at the pool this weekend!!

Swim at Your Own Risk Hours

Hi Members,

We can see that the addition of swim-at-your-own-risk hours has been very popular! It took us a long to time do the research regarding insurance, waivers and other issues – before we were comfortable offering this option to our members. It was not something we added just because we wanted it – there was lots of thought, and much debate, that went into the decision.

We know many of you requested that the hours be extended once school started and the opening hours were changed from 10:30 to 3 pm. Even before official requests were made, we were already discussing/debating this, via email, and were in the process of voting on the issue.

Ultimately, the majority voted not to extend the hours this year – but to revisit it for next year. If it passes next year, we would need to rewrite the waiver and change the signs (which has to be done, per our insurance). We also need to make sure systems are in place to ensure the water chemistry remains consistent for all of those unattended hours – which may mean having a guard check the pool each morning.

So while we could have just said – “sure, let’s extend the hours” – that is not how we operate. We are all volunteers, and while sometimes decisions, actions and communications take longer than we’d like, we always try and do our best to ensure that we think things through, cover all the bases and work in the best interest of the club and all of our members.

With that said – we will be discussing this issue in future Board meetings. If you have an opinion on it, please reply to this email and everyone on the Board will receive it. Also, if you have any questions or suggestions for the future, please let us know.

Thanks!

Friday Cookout/Movie Night & Other Important Updates

Hi Members,

We just secured the cookout volunteers, so Friday's cookout is ON!! This is last Friday night cookout of the summer - we hope you can make it! Also, we've now rescheduled Saturday's Movie Night to this Friday. Not sure what movie we'll be showing - we'll bring a bunch of G movies and let the kids pick. Rain or shine - we will be there!

In other news...

* We finally fixed the transformer on the back tennis court light! It took longer than expected (and was very expensive) b/c we had to find someone who could get a special lift that would reach that high, at a weird angle, over the fence. Sorry for the delay and many thanks to Luis Moreno for making sure this project got completed.

* We now have someone professionally cleaning the bathrooms, kitchen and clubhouse! Next year we plan to have this done weekly, starting as soon as we open. This is something we should have done a long time ago, but better late than never. Also, once we close, we are going to have a volunteer workday to remove the bathroom mats and either clean them or replace them with something else, depending on the condition of the floor underneath.

* We still haven't found the yellow jacket nest(s) - but we did find the beginning of a wasp's nest and we are taking care of that. We will probably have to come up with a different plan for recycling, as they really seem to love that easily accessible high fructose corn syrup.

* Don't forget about the charity tennis tournament/cookout on Saturday, August 11thClick here for details. We will also be offering kids tennis lessons/games this Fall - stay tuned for details about that.

* Our hours change when school starts on August 13th and we don't open until 3pm (check around - all other pools do the same thing, as it's crazy expensive to justify life guards when so few people use the pool during this time of summer).

* If you are in town for Labor Day - plan to be at the pool! It's the last day we are open - we'll have a cookout and some other fun surprises :)

* We plan to continue the fun after we close with some Fall potluck dinners and family movie nights. If you'd like to help plan an event, please let us know.

* Membership is awesome, our budget is great and it's time to start planning for the future. This Fall we will be working on a Master Plan that will either include some major repairs/upgrades to our clubhouse or a whole new clubhouse. Please look closely at our facilities and property and start thinking about what changes/improvements you'd like to see. And stay tuned for details about a planning meeting in September.

That's all for now...

We hope you are enjoying your summer!

We had a potluck dinner scheduled that night (as it's the last Saturday before school starts and our pool hours change) - but instead, we are now doing this :)
There will be the usual cookout food available for purchase (price is $5/meal, because this is a fundraiser and all the proceeds go to charity).

We hope you can make it!!

Friday's Cookout/Sat Sno Cones

Cookout is ON for this Friday!

If it's lightning and pouring rain, it will probably be cancelled - but we've done cookouts in the rain before, so who knows? It usually just depends on who's there, what time it started raining and how much it's raining. If your life depends on knowing if there will be a burger ready for you (or you just want to better plan your night/dinner), call the pool phone (770) 457-0993 and wait for someone to answer - then ask "what's the deal with the cookout?". Hopefully someone nice and honest will answer.

Saturday is GNO Snoball day!  Details are below. They won't be at the pool, but their store is so close, you can walk to it from the pool. Or probably you'll want to drive because it will either be 100 degrees or raining.

Have a great weekend!

-Leslie Freymann

***

Cool off with a delicious and refreshing New Orleans style Sno Cone and support the swim team and pool at the same time! This Saturday HHSTC will get a portion of ALL sales at GNO Snoball on Chamblee Dunwoody Rd. Invite your friends, walk, run, drive, fly and gobble up. Flavors include fuzzy navel, orange, chocolate, blue raspberry  and about 50 more! They are also available in sugar free and clear! GNO is open from 9am - 8pm - please stop in and refresh!

Yellow Jacket Alert

In two days, we've had 2 kids stung by yellow jackets. We have sprayed all the trash cans and searched for a nest, but have yet to find it. Please just be on the alert - as I know we have some members very allergic to yellow jackets. If you find the nest, please let us know and we will take care of it immediately - and free cookout dinner to whoever finds it!!!

We will also stay more on top of the guards, to make sure trash is emptied and the trash can surfaces are cleaned more frequently. Please help us by wiping up any sticky messes that you may see on the tables - the guards usually are not able to do this until the end of the day.

Thanks!

Pool Closed - But Then Opened

Happy Sunday! Not. Our pool is temporarily closed. Apparently, a substitute guard left the back flow valve open last night. I'm not a pool expert but I think that's not what you are supposed to do. The pool water drained out all night long and at 9:30 this morning we discovered an almost empty pool. The good news is that we caught it before all the water was gone, so our pumps, etc were not damaged.

The even better news is that now we are filling it with sparkly, clean, clear, COLD water!

Bad news - the pool is closed until we can get it filled and the water chemistry correct. We expect that to happen around 2ish today. I'll send an email and post on Facebook as soon as it's swimmable again.

Here's a photo of the pool at about 9:45 this morning.

Ps. Thanks to Faith Nassar for calling us this morning to let us know the water was gone :)

UPDATE: 1pm

The pool is open and the water chemistry is all good! We just tested it (again). Only issue is that it is half filled. But at least we finally have the zero-entry pool, with fountains, that we've always dreamed about! For a few hours, anyway. A guard is on duty and there are kids playing in it now. There's no jumping allowed - you have to walk down the dry stairs. Should be full later today.

Below is a photo. Come join the fun!

Hours Change, Friday Cookout Cancelled, Movie Night Sat, Chamblee Day Rescheduled

We hope everyone had a great 4th of July! I'll be posting a recap of our party and lots of photos in the near future. But for now, some schedule updates...

The pool now closes at 8 pm Monday - Thursday instead of 9 pm. Last year we always closed at 8 pm and added the extra hour this summer for June. Click here to view the full hours <http://www.hhstc.com/Hours.html> . If you have a strong preference regarding any aspect of our schedule, please let us know!

Friday: cookout cancelled; sorry folks, all our usual volunteers are still recovering from July 4th. If you'd like to sign-up for July 13th, click here <https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsQyIehvdlzkdFFBdmZuWklIUTNpSF9zVm9ham8yY3c> .

Saturday: Kids movie night! It will either be Toy Story III or Lion King (we'll let the kids who show up decide). Bring blankets and pillows; movie starts at 6 pm in the clubhouse, and there's free popcorn!

Chamblee Day (when the pool is opened for free to all Chamblee employees and their families) has been postponed from this Sunday to Saturday, July 21st because, um, I forgot to tell Chamblee about it. Oops!

We hope you enjoyed June! As you'll see, things really start to slow down in July and by August sometimes it's like a ghost town at the pool. But that doesn't mean we stop working on fun stuff. Stay tuned for some information regarding Planning for the Master Plan...

See you at the pool!

-Leslie Freymann

Friday Cookouts and Grills, Swim Meet Photos

Hi Members,

We hope you love the Friday cookouts as much as we do! Last summer we were able to continue them through all of June and July. But we can't do it without volunteers. Our Board members do all the shopping and we always try to have a Board member present, who sets things up, knows what to do, brings the money box, etc.

So your job is super easy - you just have to show up, grill some burgers and/or help collect money. It takes less than 2 hours and we give you 3 hours of volunteer credit for your $25 workday assessment reimbursement.

Also, if you hate bringing cash to the pool and/or you love a deal, buy one of our pre-paid punch cards online. You can get credit card points for it AND you get a free meal. Win-win for you!
http://www.hhstc.com/Store.html

And guess what we just bought?!? Another grill! This one is super big and awesome (two tanks!) and we needed it for the cookouts and swim meets. We plan to keep it locked up in the concessions stand when we are not using it for official events. Here's why...

We love our members using the grills (that's why we have them) but we are consistently finding that when we try to use them on Fridays they are filthy dirty and out of gas - in less than a week. They also seem to break often, in various ways. It's very discouraging, especially when we are depending on them. These are your grills - your membership money paid for them. Please treat them as your own - clean them, cover them and turn off the gas when you are done using them. Thanks!

And finally - congrats to the Hammerheads for another WINNING meet tonight! Check out their Facebook group to see some awesome photos, including the kids dressed up as Super Heroes.

Movie Tonight, Sunday Potluck, Tues Pool Closed Early

Kids movie night is tonight (Sat, 9th). Movie starts around 6pm in the clubhouse. Bring blankets and pillows. We'll have free popcorn and ice cream for sale ($1). So far, Finding Nemo is winning in the survey. Please vote up until 4pm today: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/C2B8M3N

Senior pot-luck dinner is Sunday (10th) at 6pm. And actually, it's a 50+ potluck. Below is an email sent to the HH Yahoo Group, with additional details. We hope some of you can make it!

Tuesday (12th) is a HOME swim meet and the pool closes at 3pm. There will be a full concessions stand available for dinner - much more than the standard Friday night cookout. If you've never been to a swim meet, you should come check it out. It's super crowded and very loud - but so much fun! And our Hammerheads love having big crowds cheering for them.

Save these other dates:

Tues, June 19th: Home Swim Meet
Wed, June 20th: Member Pot Luck Dinner
Thurs, June 28th: Swim Team Party (pool closes at 6pm)
Sat, June 30th: 2nd Annual Adult Only Dip-Off Party! (contest for the best dip; details coming soon)
Wed, July 4th: Parade and Party!! It's going to be bigger and better than ever!
Sat, July 7th: Kids Movie Night

And of course, cookouts every Friday through June and July (assuming we can get volunteers, of course). Click here to sign-up:

Hi Neighbors,

The Huntley Hills Swim and Tennis Club is sponsoring a Senior potluck dinner social at the pool this Sunday (June 10th) at 6pm.  And for the purposes of this event only, we are defining “Senior” as
50+, just cause that’s how AARP defines it (so don’t blame us, blame AARP:http://www.aarp.org <http://www.aarp.org/>  ) and we wanted to open it up to as many people as possible. Please come and meet your neighbors – young and old!

This event is free and we hope lots of you will be able to make it. Please bring a dish to share and a serving utensil. The club will provide plates, napkins, utensils and non-alcoholic drinks. For additional details and to RSVP, click here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AhP8t3qtwp3BdHFrN3pmYVlaeWRHV28wOXJHWkRESlE

If the Internet is not your thing, you can also RSVP by just replying to this email or calling 770-713-0350 .

Thanks!

PS. Please forward this email to anyone you think might be interested. And if you have a Senior neighbor, without Internet/email, it would be great if you could print this and put it in their mailbox. Thanks!

Smoking at the Pool

Hi Members,

Due to the number of complaints we've received this year, and in years past, we had a majority vote at our last Board meeting to only allow smoking behind the clubhouse. This means no more smoking on the pool deck or anywhere near the pool. We hope everyone understands this decision, as it was based on what we felt is best for the safety and comfort of our members, as well as the overall appearance and cleanliness of our pool.

Please contact us if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Sunday Open House, Snow Cones, Bounce House and Baby Pool

Just a reminder...

Sunday (June 3rd) is our Good Neighbor Day - bring your friends and family - for FREE!

GNO SnoBalls will be there, selling their fabulous Snow Cones from 1-4 pm. Prices start at just $2. A portion of the proceeds goes to our swim team.

We expect to be crowded, so please bring a folding chair (or two) to guarantee yourself a seat.

Our bounce house from Jump and Slide <http://www.jumpandslide.com>  will hopefully absorb some of the extra kids. Please help us keep this safe - if you feel there are too many kids in it and/or some of the older kids are playing too rough - we encourage you to politely say something, either to the kids, the parents or the life guards. We would love it if some adults took charge during the peak times (i.e. adult swim) and monitored the number of kids inside of it. Thanks!

Also, the baby pool is for children 4 and under. We are planing to get an official, permanent sign soon, stating this. The lifeguards are not responsible for watching the baby pool. If you see children in there unattended, especially if they are over 4 and/or playing too rough - please politely kick them out :)

Thanks!

Cookout Weather Tonight - Plus Another Fun, New, Good Thing

Hi Members,

It may be raining tonight - but that's never stopped us from having a cookout. Ok, well, maybe sometimes it has. But not tonight! The cookout is on, rain or shine!

We can open the clubhouse and have game night, if it's too rainy or thundery to swim. Because wouldn't it be better to be in the clubhouse, playing games with your friends and family, than to be stuck at home on a yucky weather night? So bring your cards, favorite board games, etc.

ALSO, we have another fun, new good thing <http://hhstc.blogspot.com/2012/05/fun-new-good-things.html>  to share. We have a new sponsor - Jump and Slide <http://www.jumpandslide.com> . Have your heard of them? They rent bounce houses and water slides out for the ENTIRE WEEKEND (Fri - Sun). Bounce houses start at just $110 for the weekend, plus tax - and that's for a nice, commercial bounce house - not some dinky weak thing that will break if more than 3 kids jump on it. You do have to pick it up and return it to them, but they are close by and it's easy. And totally worth the savings, especially when you can have it for 3 days. You won't find a better deal anywhere in town! Please consider them for your party needs.
http://www.jumpandslide.com <http://www.jumpandslide.com/>  770-448-5515 (ask for Chris and tell them Huntley Hills sent you :)

And since they are our sponsor - we have a free bounce house for the weekend (and most importantly, for our Good Neighbor Day on Sunday). It's already set up - come check it out!

See you at the pool...

Swim Team Practice M/W 7-8 pm & Upcoming Schedule

Hi Members,

Oops. Forgot to mention - our swim team has evening practices from 7-8 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays in June. They take up most of the pool - but if it's a slow night and they have a lane free, adults can swim, too. Half of the shallow end is still available for free swim (and we have a lifeguard watching just that portion of the pool) - and of course, the "jail" (i.e. fenced in baby pool) is also still open, for parents and children 4 and under.

Oh, and the same thing applies to 10:30 am - 11am in June. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Upcoming Events:

Fri, June 1st: Cookout!
Sun, June 3rd: Good neighbor day - bring your friends for free (and bring a folding chair)
Tues, June 5th: Away swim meet
Wed, June 6th: Pot luck dinner
Thurs, June 7th: Swim-a-thon
Fri, June 8th - Cookout!
Sat, June 9th - Kids movie night
Sun, June 10th - Senior pot luck dinner

See you at the pool!

This week at the pool...

What a great opening weekend we had! Many thanks to everyone who volunteered to help make it a success - especially those who grilled all the burgers and hot dogs. Also, thanks to everyone who paid the guest fees - all of that money goes right back into the club, to help fund everything we do.

A special thanks also, to our new sponsor, GNO SnoBalls <https://www.facebook.com/GNOSnoBalls>  - their snow cones were a wonderful treat to have on a hot day at the pool! Please let them (and all our other sponsors listed below) know we appreciate their support!

This week at the pool...

Tuesday - AWAY swim meet! You should have gotten details from John Jewett about the logistics, etc. If you have a child on the swim team (or a child that might join - it's never too late!) and you are not getting John's emails, please let him know: jwjewett@gmail.com. If you don't have a child on the team, this would be a great, relaxed night to enjoy the pool, as all the swim team families will be at another pool :)

Wednesday - Chick Fil-A <http://www.chick-fil-a.com/chambleeplaza>  Night. As a new sponsor, Chick Fil-A is hosting a spirit night and giving a portion of all their proceeds to our swim team. If you don't feel like cooking (and who does?) - please consider eating at Chick Fil-A or even better, getting take-out in the drive-thru and bringing your dinner to the pool. Also - be aware, the Gramercy Park HOA is meeting in our clubhouse, so if you see lots people in non-pool clothes, walking into the clubhouse, don't freak out :)

Thursday - nothing special happening - just normal pool fun.

Friday - cookout from 6-7 pm! If you bought a punch card online <http://www.hhstc.com/Store.html> , it should be in the money box, waiting for you at the cookout table. Also, meant to say this earlier - we have veggie and vegan burgers available upon request. Click here for the sign-up sheet <https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsQyIehvdlzkdFFBdmZuWklIUTNpSF9zVm9ham8yY3c>  to volunteer for grilling.

Saturday - nothing special happening - just normal pool fun.

Sunday - Good Neighbor Day! We open the pool up to Huntley Hills neighbors and friends/families of members - for free. We used to have an Open House on the 2nd Friday of the summer, but we decided that our Fridays are full enough and Sunday might be a better day for extra visitors. We may even get a bounce house for the kids :)

Have a great week!

Memorial Day Party Details and Sno Cones!

We hope you are planning to spend Memorial Day at the pool!

We are having a cookout from 12:00 - 1:00 pm (it may go later, just depending on the crowd). The usual deal: $4 for a burger/hotdog, chips and a drink. Bring your own alcohol, but please, no glass containers.

We will also have some contests planned - but we'll probably keep things simple and they will all involve the diving board. Are you brave enough to compete?!? As an extra incentive, we'll give away free meals to the winners.

If the weather is nice, we'll be crowded - so you might want to bring a folding chair or two - just to guarantee yourself a spot to sit throughout the day.

Also, this Monday - don't miss your chance to have a cool, refreshing, and delicious New Orleans style Sno Cone at the pool! One of our newest sponsors, GNO Snowballs <https://www.facebook.com/GNOSnoBalls> , will join us from 12:30-2:30pm. Flavors range from Fuzzy Navel to pink lemonade to blue raspberry and prices start at $2. You can see owner Gary, turn ice into snow! A portion of the proceeds go to our own HH Hammerheads Swim Team.

We hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend!

3 Memberships Left!

We are having another record year of membership. I just finished putting in all of the renewals and new members that came in this week - and we've added 34 new families this year!! We are capping membership at 175 - which means we only have 3 memberships left for 2012. Please spread the word to any friends you have that are thinking of joining.

Also, I've updated our FAQ online <http://www.hhstc.com/FAQ.html>  and since many of you have asked why we are implementing a wait list, I figured I would include the answer in this email (and I wrote this answer before we got all the new families that joined in the last few days):

Wait List? Why?
We don’t have one yet, but we are capping membership at 175 households (we are in the mid 160s now). We run the Club as a business and treat our members as customers. We have to balance member satisfaction with our desire to increase income. If our current members feel the pool is too crowded - and therefore not safe and/or enjoyable - then we will have not properly served our existing customers. And if our current customers are not happy, we will not continue to build a good reputation and will not be able to recruit new customers, when needed. Member satisfaction is very important to us!

If/when we implement a wait list, it will be fair and 100% transparent. Not all clubs can say that :)

Pool Procedures, Guest Fees, Etc

Hi Members,

What a beautiful opening weekend we seem to be having! Pool tags will be at the front table for pickup all weekend. If you joined or renewed in the last couple of days and/or you don't make it to the pool before Tuesday, we will deliver them to you early next week. Please place the tag on your pool bag, cooler, stroller or whatever you normally bring to the pool. You just need one for everyone coming under your membership. If you lose your tag and/or need another for some reason, let me know.

Note: if you just joined your name(s) might not be on the membership list, please just sign in on the guest sheet and if anyone asks, tell them you are new members :)

We will have our membership list at the front table - please find your household name on the list and mark down the day/time you came and the # of guests you have brought. Guest fees are $4/person (kids 3 and under are free). The detailed policy is pasted below. There's a locked guest fee box on the front table, please place your cash or check in the box. If you need change, ask the lifeguard during adult swim (which is every hour, for 15 minutes before the hour).

We operate mostly on the honor system and we rely on our members to help keep people honest and ensure that everyone at the pool is a member or has paid the guest fee. Although, our Board members and lifeguards do randomly take the sign-in sheet and walk around the pool, just to meet everyone and say hello. Oh, and by the way, we also politely kick people out who haven't paid :)

Our head lifeguard, Nick (tall guy, brown hair, at the pool all the time) is great about enforcing the rules. Please let him know if you believe someone is at the pool and shouldn't be - he will handle it.

And if you've missed any updates or emails (especially for those of you who just joined and haven't received any emails), I try to put everything on our blog:

http://hhstc.blogspot.com/

Let us know if you have questions or problems.

And don't forget - we are having a cookout tonight (Friday) and Memorial Day.
